Stewarding Congress in Blackpool

Volunteers Requested for June 2026 event:

Volunteers being sought for stewarding at next year’s Congress in Blackpool.  In addition to two volunteer stewards from GMB Scotland, and the Winter Garden stewards, National are looking for a further five/six North-West & Irish activists/branch members local to Blackpool.  Ideally, they would be SIA licenced but this is not essential.

The volunteer stewards would be able to claim the following expenses:

Travel

Train and/or bus fares each day, supported by receipts, or mileage @ 45p per mile, plus car parking incurred – supported by receipts.

Subsistence

Saturday, 6 June 2026 = £25 to attend the Stewards Briefing meeting – approximately 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Sunday, 7 June 2026 = full £80 loss of working time claim*

Monday, 8 June – Thursday, 11 June 2026, inclusive = either £25 per day, or up to £80 per day loss of working time* (if not paid for time off).

*Loss of working time claims must be supported by a letter from the employer

Other Matters

The Steward’s Briefing meeting will be held in The Winter Gardens, Blackpool on the morning of Saturday, 6 June (exact times to be advised direct to stewards in due course), to brief stewards on the various arrangements and responsibilities.

Stewards will then be required for Congress sessions as follows:

Sunday, 7 June – Wednesday, 10 June – 8.45 a.m. – 5.30 p.m.

Thursday, 11 June – 8.45 a.m. – lunchtime

Stewards will be asked to wear white polo shirts with “STEWARD” overprinted on the front to make them more easily identifiable to delegates and other Congress attendees.

Would volunteers advise what size polo shirt they will require and five (one for each day) will be provided.

I should be grateful if you would contact janet.davies@gmb.org.uk if there is any interest.
