New Injection of Funds into Union Learning Schemes
When the original government-funded Union Learning Fund (ULF) was abolished in England in 2021, GMB and other trade unions kept their education branches alive using their own internal structures and partnerships. Under the GMB National Lifelong Learning Committee (NLLC), they currently offer several pathways.
The Union Learning Fund is returning with a £15 million investment announced by the government to help workers across England gain new skills.
Key Details on the Return of Union Learning:
Chancellor (or government leadership) announced plans to bring back the union-run training scheme at the Labour Party conference.
The revived Union Learning Fund receives £15 million redirected from existing government budgets, will be injected unto the exusting union learning schemes. Workers do not need to be union members to take advantage of the training programs. Courses range from foundational skills (English, maths, and digital literacy) to specialised training for growing sectors like advanced manufacturing and adapting to new technology such as AI.
