Temperature in the Workplace

Know about temperatures in your working environment.

TUC has a campaign for a maximum high workplace temperature. Employers must take action when temperatures hit 24°C. Work should stop entirely if the temperature reaches 30°C (or 27°C for physically strenuous jobs).

Visualising the future climate trends, we look forward to this matter being taken forward at the June 2026 Congress conference.

Although there is a minimum 16°C (13° if physical work) in the UK there in no legal maximum set.

HSE state that temperatures should be reasonable and safe
